The sixteenth century mansion Villa Bottini, inside Lucca’s historical town centre, will host an exhibition by three young artists: Marcello Buffa, Fabio Sciortino and William Marc Zanghi.
Curated by Alessandro Romanini and sponsored by Lucca Town Council, this exhibition aims to form bridges between tradition and innovation, between the rich and multifaceted historical and artistic heritage of a town like Lucca and the more recent and iconography-led expressions of contemporary art.
The exhibition will be on show in the Villa’s basement from June 1 – 24.
“Experience is deceptive, appearance is real” is a fascinating and new journey through the three young artists’ most recent works, a voyage into their visual poetry, expressed through the diversity of their pictorial styles. All three of them engage with the concept of realism, explored and re-mastered in light of the perceptive modifications induced by technological society. In particular, they target the classical themes of portrait or landscape painting, playing on perceptive deception, stimulating the viewer’s subjectivity with technical devices, forcing the dismissal of passive contemplation.
They also share the attempt to combat the “bombardment” of images that we are subjected to by the media; an iconic invasion that strips the image of its supposed ontological pertinence and questions its very meaning and function.
