“Lucca e l’Europa. Un’idea di Medioevo (V-XI secolo)” (Lucca and Europe. An idea of the Middle Ages 5th – 11th century)
The exhibition “Lucca e l’Europa. Un’idea di Medioevo (V-XI secolo)” opens on September 25 at the Ragghianti Foundation in Lucca. The exhibition was organised by a Scientific Committee made up of Clara Baracchini, Carlo Bertelli, Antonino Caleca, Maria Teresa Filieri, Marco Collareta and Gigetta Dalli Regoli, as part of the centennial celebrations of the birth of Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti.
A careful selection of over one hundred works, arranged in eleven sections, from the 5th to 11th century, explores the artistic production in Lucca with precise references to the wider European context.
Based on recent studies on decorative typologies and their intellectual and cultural background, the exhibition considers the work of art, as Ragghianti taught us, in a dynamic relation to its surroundings following a method that examines materials without pre-packaged judgements.
