"Lucca in musica" - Anteprime / "Lucca in musica"

The Lucca Musical Association (AML), awarded the plaque for the 50th year of activity by the President of the Republic, presents, together with the Giglio Theatre, the 2014 Lucca in Music Festival programme, in collaboration with the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca and Lucar-Bmw.

The festival forms part of the larger AML annual programme, that takes place throughout the province and boasts numerous collaborations, and the media-partnership of Rai Radio Tre, the classical music channel for excellence in Italy.

The Lucca in Music programme is polyhedral with a wealth of events. It opens with two particular previews at the end of March, followed, until the beginning of June, by concerts, that alternate between the Giglio Theatre, the Boccherini Institute and the Basilica of San Frediano, film in collaboration with Cineforum Ezechiele 25,17 and conferences at Palazzo Ducale.

PREVIEWS

Friday 28 March, 18.30, there is a presentation of the concerts in the beautiful space of the Lu.c.c.a. Museum that will be open to the public for the occasion. Maurizio Vanni, general director of the museum, will give a talk on the theme “creativity, between identity and metamorphosis”.

Saturday 29 March, 17.00, at the Luigi Boccherini Musical Institute, there is the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to Carol Mac Andrew, first president of AML and at 17.30 there is the presentation of the two scholarships that the AML has established in memory of Mac Andrew.

CONCERTS

Thursday 3 April, 21.00 at the Giglio Theatre, the opening concert is by the Italian Youth Orchestra conducted by John Axelrod, performing some pieces from “Tristan und Isolde” by Richard Wagner, the Ouverture-fantasia from “Romeo and Juliet” by Tchaikovsky and Symphony n.5 in E minor op. 64, again by Tchaikovsky.

Friday 11 April, 21.00, in the Basilica of San Frediano, to mark the 2014 National Festival of Volunteering, there will be the concert of the Luigi Boccherini Musical Institute Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Gian Paolo Mazzoli. In programme, the Messa di Gloria for 4 voices by Giacomo Puccini, the Prelude for various instruments by Fortunato Magi as interpreted by Herbert Handt and, again by Puccini, the Requiem for choir, viola and orchestra, transcribed and arranged by the maestro Handt.

The concert will be presented the previous Saturday, 5 April, at 17.00 in the Sala di Rappresentanza of Palazzo Ducale by Gabriella Biagi Ravenni and Herbert Handt.

Again, as part of the Festival of Volunteering, Saturday 12 April, 17.00, the Giglio Theatre, boasts a special concert, with an exceptional orchestra – the Symphony Orchestra Esagramma, that brings together professional musicians and disabled young people, to perform together thanks to an interesting music-therapy programme. The concert also is part of the programme of “Musica ragazzi”, the season that the AML dedicates to the young.

Wednesday 23 April, 21.00, at the Giglio Theatre, it is the turn of the Orchestra da camera of Mantova with the Trio di Parma, conducted by Enrico Bronzi. In programma the Symphony in A major op. 12 n. 6 G508 by Luigi Boccherini, the Danze di Galanta by Zoltán Kodály and the Triplo concerto” in C major for pianoforte, violin and violoncello, op. 56 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The following day, Thursday 24 April, 10.00, at the Luigi Boccherini Musical Institute, Enrico Bronzi will hold a masterclass of violoncello to markBoccherini Open 2014”, while Saturday 26 April, Herbert Handt and Marco Mangani will hold a conference dedicated to the symphonies of Luigi Boccherini.

Saturday 24 May, 21.00 at Giglio Theatre, the much awaited performance of the National Rai Symphony Orchestra with Alexander Lonquich in the dual role of soloist and conductor. In programme all Mozart: Concerto n. 17 for pianoforte and orchestra in G major K453, Symphony n. 36 in C major K425 “Linz” and Concert n. 22 for pianoforte and orchestra in E flat major K482.

Friday 6 June, 21.00 at the Giglio Theatre, the welcome return of the Orchestra of Tuscany with with Giuseppe Albanese on pianoforte and conducted by Julian Kovatchev and a programme entirely dedicated to Beethoven: Coriolano Overture in C minor op.62, the Concert for pianoforte and orchestra n. 3 in C minor op. 37, the Symphony n. 7 in A major, op. 92. The concert will be introduced Friday 30 May by the conference by Giovanni Bietti entitled Ascoltare Beethoven.

There are five conferences in total, held at 17.00 at Palazzo Ducale.

Saturday 5 April (Sala di Rappresentanza): La Messa for 4 voices by Giacomo Puccini presented by Gabriella Biagi Ravenni and Herbert Handt.

Saturday 26 April (Sala Mario Tobino): The Symphonies by Luigi Boccherini presented by Herbert Handt and Marco Mangani.

Saturday 10 May (Sala Mario Tobino): Metamorphose – why Haydn’s Symphonies are a hundred, those by Mozart forty-one, those by Beethoven nine and other matters, and interesting conference by the journalist and musicologist Gregorio Moppi.

Friday 23 May, 18.30 (Sala Accademia 1): TRAZOM: survival manual. The biography of the eternal child as rules to get by in the XXI century presented by Michele Dall’Ongaro.

Friday 30 May (Sala Accademia 1): Listening to Beethoven presented by Giovanni Bietti.
