Meeting with Salvatore Borsellino

Saturday 3 December at 17:00 at the Giardino d’inverno (Winter Garden) of Villa Bertelli,  there will be a meeting with Salvatore Borsellino, brother of Paolo – the magistrate killed by the mafia on 19 July, 1992, in the Via d’Amelio massacre.

The event has been organised by the Forte dei Marmi Town Council and is open to all. Salvatore Borsellino is the founder of the “Agende rosse” (Red Diaries) movement which recalls the (red) diary where Paolo kept note of his personal appointments, thoughts, and also declarations by police informants. The diary disappeared from the magistrate’s leather briefcase that was on the back seat of the car he was travelling in. Borsellino is known to have kept this diary with him at all times, especially after the mafia had killed Giovanni Falcone.

The meeting with Salvatore Borsellino, chaired by the Rai journalist Carlo Fontana, will be an important occasion for retracing an important part of Italy’s history and knowing better those who have lost their lives fighting against the mafia, in the name of legality. After the meeting there will be the possibility for open debate. At 16:00, Borsellino will visit Piazza Falcone e Borsellino where a pine tree will be planted as a sign of hope and in remembrance of victims of the mafia.
