Nottolini aqueduct. Trip up-stream from Lucca’s fountains to the sources of Guamo

The consorzio Bonifica “Auser-Bientina” organises a bike ride along the course of Lucca’s aqueduct to the sources of the “Parole d’Oro”.

Meeting place: 9 am in Piazza S. Maria, Lucca. Return around 1 pm. (Bikes for-rent available)
Itinerary: The monumental fountains and town’s underground tunnel leading to the San Colombano Rampart; following the course of the aqueduct, crossing the Ozzeri and Rogio Canals. A one-off chance to visit the underground tunnels where these precious waterways flow.

Useful provisions: suitable clothes and footwear, a light, water-proof jacket, ruck-sack with water and high calorie food. The bike rides are easy and on flat ground but often off-road. Total distances are less than 20 km. The walks are easy and suitable for all, adults and children. For the all-day trips, each person should bring their own packed-lunch.

Up to a maximum of 35 applications will be accepted. In the event of rain, the excursions will be postponed and rearranged for a date in the following weeks.

These bikes rides and walks form part of the project “L’acqua nel comprensorio: da vivere, da bere, da proteggere”, and provide many opportunities to learn about the various waterways in the plain of Lucca, their natural environments and the history of man’s interventions over time.
