The foyer of the Grand Theater "Giacomo Puccini" in Torre del Lago hosts the exhibition organized by Lodovico Gierut and Marilena Cheli Tomei from June 8 to July 9 2017 on behalf of the Artistic Documentary Committee Gierut.
The initiative, dedicated to the memory of the famous composer and to some of his operas, is part of an unusual moving exhibition conceived each time in a different way based on the type of space at disposal, and based on Puccini's different works, realized with so many techniques to get almost a didactic value: at each 'stage' of the exhibition cultural events will be organized.
The exhibition is enriched by a publication – of Gierut and Cheli Tomei, authors of broad essays – with over four hundred images on 192 pages, related to the Maestro, to artists who used to spend their tome with him especially during his stay in Torre del Lago ( the legendary "painters of the lake"), such as Ferruccio Pagni, and some authors who created the scenographies of the operas in Torre del Lago (Igor Mitoraj, Kan Yasuda, Folon, Ezio Frigerio, Franco Adami).
Many noteworthy, and obviously thematically punctual works, of the large group of mainly Italian creators, placed – for this first occasion – on special structures, teas, and even in envelopes to be consulted by the public.
A hundred of works are exposed (paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs), many of which come from the Gierut Committee's collection, specifically realized by well-motivated artists and connoisseurs of Giacomo Puccini's poetry, who have performed "La Rondine" – the 100th anniversary is celebrated this year since its premiere – "Turandot", "Tosca", "La Bohème", "Madama Butterfly", the five selected masterpieces to represent in July and August the 63rd Edition of the Puccini Festival in the Grand Theater "Giacomo Puccini" and in the Auditorium Enrico Caruso.
A remarkable hommage is dedicated to Anna Chromy, in a world premiere, with some drawings for a future ballet based on "Madame Butterfly", as well as in the space in front of the theater next to the splendid lake of Massaciuccoli, where various monumental bronze sculptures of the renowned artist will be exposed for the whole season.
