PALIO DI SAN JACOPO – Gallicano

The Palio of Gallicano is back with the parade of floats of the three districts: Borgo Antico, Buffalo and Monticello.

The history of the Palio has its origin in the spirit of competition that rules the peolpe of Gallicano, he is not seeking external adversaries, but their neighbors thmselves, in order to discuss and poke fun throughout the year.
The Palio is officially opened in 1972, but the foundations date back to the '50s, when the Rioni Buffalo, Dynamite, Roccaforte and Strettoia used to compete in a summer tournament in football and relay runners who ran the evening of the feast of the patron. In the early 70s is the Strettoia both the Buffaloes decided to precede the races of the brackets by small floats with costumed characters, some of which had to support their athletes and partly had to tease opponents.

Today the event is really felt all over the country that lends itself willingly to months of hard work in order to live exciting moments during the race and the parade.
Two parades and two challenges evening, on July 16 preliminaries and 23 July, the day of the patron saint, St. Jacopo, the final challenge.
