“Pietrasanta in concerto” is an international music festival founded in 2006, fast becoming one of the main cultural event on the Versilia coast. With the musical direction of Micheal Guttman, the fesival presents a selection of international acclaimed musicians, in a unique mix of orchestral and camera music, of young and established soloist, of open concerts on Piazza Duomo and the magical acoustics of the Chiostro Sant’Agostino.

The theme of this year, the seventh edition of Piestrasanta in concert, is the family of artists. Historically speaking, there are many to choose from, including the Shumman spouses, the Mendelssohn brothers and the Jackson Five, who, among others will feature in these 9 musical evenings.

Performances start at 21.30.

Friday 26 July – Mozart in Family (Cloister)
Duo Lechner Tiempo, the Argentinian pianists, Sergio Tiempo and Karin Lechner, brother and sister, moon and sun, yin and yang, four hands that play as one. These two artists are joined by their daughter Karin Lechner, Natasha Binder, a phenomenon at tender age of twelve.
With the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, conductor: Toby Hoffman.
Mozart: Concert for 2 pianos / Concert for 3 pianos / Overture of La Clemenza di Tito.

Saturday 27 July – Giovanni Sollima and I Turchini & Antonio Florio (Cloister)
The celebrated cello player and brilliant composer Giovanni Sollima, who has worked with artists such as Martha Argerich, Patti Smith and Philip Glass, takes Baroque music to a new level with the ensemble I Turchini conducted by Antonio Florio.
Concerts of the Neapolitan School for cello and string instruments of Leonardo Leo, Giuseppe de Majo, Niccolò Fiorenza and Giovanni Sollima.

Sunday 28 July – Rendezvous in Salzburg (Cloister)
Pinchas Zukerman, a living violin legend, who personifies perfection, in trio with his wife Amanda Forsyth, a sensual, radiant and intelligent cellist and the pianist Angela Cheng, winner of the Arthur Rubinstein competition..
Trio of Beethoven, Kodaly and Mendelssohn.

Monday 29 July – Carta bianca a Pinchas Zukerman (Cloister)
Pinchas Zukerman, violin and conducting of the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, still within the family and with the complicity of Amanda Forsyth on cello.
Concerts of the great Bach family (father and son), Vivaldi and Symphony n. 29 of Mozart.

Tuesday 30 July – Salvatore Accardo, the return of the present day Paganini (Cloister)
With his mascot orchestra Italian Chamber Orchestra and his violins of Cremona, Salvatore Accardo, the greatest Italian violinist, presents a dialogue between the two greatest families of luthiers: the Stradivari and Guarneri families. Also performing are the violinists Laura Gorna and Eduard Wulfson.
Awarding of the Live Music Prize 2013 for Young Italian Talent by Salvatore Accardo (the piano finals will be followed by those for the violins)

Wednesday 31 July – Il Timbre Russian Accordion Group (From the Fort, with an unbeatable view of the Cathedral)
Timbre Russian Accordion Group, a one of its kind family of accordion players, with a repertoire of classical and folk music.

Friday 2 August – Mario Brunello, Italian pride (Cloister)
The cellist Mario Brunello, the only Italian winner of the Cajkowskij competition in Moscow, has become a source of national pride for the Italians. In the hands of «Super Mario», playing the cello appears to be so easy.
Music by Boccherini, Bach and others.
Prelude to the concert by the singing group I Profeti della Quinta, with Renaissance music of Salomone Rossi.

Saturday 3 August – The Maisky trio! (Cloister)
With Pater Familias Mischa Maisky, the Russian cellist – partner of Martha Argerich and Gidon Kremer – Sascha and Lily Maisky, forms a trio united by the genome of musical genius. Finally at Pietrasanta, in arrival from the Verbier Festival!
Duo and trio of Beethoven and Shostakovic.
Prelude to the concert by the singing group I Profeti della Quinta, with Renaissance music of Salomone Rossi.

Sunday 4 August – Boris Berezovsky, father and daughter (Cloister) Boris Berezovsky, who electrified the public last year with a dazzling concert of Shostakovic, will this time reveal the immense talent of his daughter Evelyne in a concert of Chopin, that they will play together. The event, that is sure to be an extremely emotional affair, will allow mark the return of a young prodigy to the clarinet, the rising star, Dionysis Grammenos.
With the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, conductor Domenico Pierini.
Music by Chopin, Lutoslawski, Wieniawski, in a programme in honour to Poland.
