From August 7th – 30th, there is an exhibition at Villa la Versiliana of drawings by four renowned artists: the painter Omar Galliani, the director Peter Greenaway, the sculptor Luigi Mainolfi and the designer Denis Santachiara.
The exhibition is dedicated to the role that drawing has played in the creative phases of each artists’ work.
This is the first public viewing of previously unpublished drawings, which functioned as cinematographic storyboards, by the film director Peter Greenaway (The Tempest, Drowning by numbers, The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover and the recent Nightwatching), whose work contains many references to Classical and Renaissance Art.
Omar Galliani, the artist exhibited in numerous editions of the Biennial Exhibition of Modern Art in Venice and other international art events, presents a series of his works – including a number of large installations – which illustrate the fundamental role that drawing has in all the phases of his work.
Luigi Mainolfi, one of the leading artists in post-conceptual contemporary sculpture, presents a series of 30 drawings on themes related to town-planning where the concept of sculpture transforms into that of architecture.
The meaning within the drawings and maquettes by Denis Santachiara hinges on the form-function dialectic, in turn based on the dialogue between art and design. Santachiara has had his work on show at the Moma in New York, Musèe des Art Decoratif at the Louvre in Paris and Vitra Museum in Berlin.
The exhibition is part of the event “Arte in Versiliana”, organised by Town Council Culture Office, Fondazione La Versiliana, and CAV (Centre for Visual Arts) Pietrasanta.
