Rayuela – Veronica Fonzo and Flavia Robalo

Rayuela instantly recalls childhood with the well-known game of hopscotch, used here as a metaphor of the man’s journey from birth (the ground), passing the complex dynamics of growing up, to the final destination of the sky.  
Veronica Fonzo and Flavia Robalo, young Argentinean artists who have been part of the artistic scene in Pietrasanta for years, together present five recent works each – sculptures and installations using a range of materials (earth, wood, marble, bronze). “A big sky symbolically and visually overlooks the exhibition – the artists explain – to introduce not just a reflection on the meaning of life, but also on the need to recuperate an ecological conscience. Slashes open up in the clear blue sky to remind all of us of the direction, lost along the way of growing up, to re-follow”.

Biographical notes
Veronica Fonzo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1972. After graduating from the School of Fine Arts she started to work as an assistant to important Argentinean masters, later moving to Pietrasanta, Tuscany, to perfect her painting and sculptural techniques. She has taken part in a number of exhibitions in Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Argentina, Bolivia and the United States, being noted for the sobriety of the forms and the spontaneity of her executions.

Flavia Robalo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1973. From 1984 she attended different schools of painting and sculpture, having explored the working of marble since 1991 as student and assistant of the sculptor Orio Dal Porto. In 1997, after graduating in Psychology, she travelled for the first time to Pietrasanta, where she continued her sculptural training and began to exhibit and participate in symposiums in Italy and abroad.
