Up until the start of October, the Museum of Satire in Forte dei Marmi will exhibit a range work by Sergio Staino, all characterised by this artist’s hallmark combination of irony and disillusion,.
The anthological exhibition dedicated to the Tuscan-born cartoonist, retraces his career from 1979 to today.
This artist’s artistic production is huge, and began with some of the first cartoons pubblished in Linus, when the Scandicci-born D&T professor first came up with Bobo – a self-caricature born from the anxieties of living precariously, a condition shared by an increasing number of people today.
This bearded character with his simple name is an angry dreamer, as well as derisive and disillusioned, a romantic husband with two children, a left-wing democrat, of an ideal left-winger who infuriates the politicians called into play. “Whoever is angered by my cartoon strips, is in a certain sense paying me a compliment, if only because it shows he has read them and is taking account of my opinion, which is always pleasing,” concludes Staino, with his classic irony.
After Linus the artist worked with numerous still existing publications, including Panorama, L’Unità, Corriere della Sera, and currently Venerdì di Repubblica.
The strips by this talented and irreverent artist who has directed newspapers’ specials, satirical papers, films, and published thousands of cartoon strips, will be presented Saturday 29 June at 18.30 by Staino himself, together with actor and comedian Paolo Hendel.
