The event remembers the most important celebration of the civil Feast of the ancient Republic of Lucca , celebrated uninterruptedly from 1369 to 1799 (the year of the fall of the Republic) to remember the reconquest of freedom after 40 years of domination of Pisa, thanks to the intervention of the Emperor Carlo IV.
