Each city has its own smell, which we take within the walls of palaces and walking along the historical streets of the city, invisible architecture in which we are immersed completely: a unique scent that comes from the extraordinary alchemy of stories of the past and present. Rudyard Kipling, writer and great traveler, in the early twentieth century, had summed it up in one sentence: "The first condition of understanding a foreign country is smell it."
"Elisa Bonaparte. The olfactory journey" is the olfactory path that bears the trace, direct, era where Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi was Princess of Lucca and Piombino.
The route links a number of places not symbolic but fragrant, emerged within the walled city thanks to a thorough historical-archival carried out by the "Napoleon and Elisa: from Paris to Tuscany".
In the conference “Sulle tracce di Elisa Bonaparte, Principessa di Lucca (1805-1814). Il percorso olfattivo” (On the trail of Elisa Bonaparte, Princess of Lucca (1805-1814). The olfactory journey). It is presented an unusual map of the city by the authors: Simonetta Giurlani Pardini, an expert on perfume and a great lover of history history of the city and Paolo Emilio Tomei, professor of the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Pisa.
During the meeting, will perform period music the Trio … échardes Voiles de Lorraine, led by Giuseppe Viscomi and composed by voice, natural horn and harp.
