The Teatro Alfieri is considered the most important of the theaters of the Serchio Valley, designed inspired by the Teatro del Giglio of Lucca, which incorporates traditional elements and decorative.
Its origin dates back to 1860.
The site chosen to host the large building was a large land outside the town, in the vicinity of the village of Saint Lucia. The building had a large hall, the audience in the shape of a horseshoe, three orders of 17 stages over the gallery; the stage was equipped with wings, backdrops and curtain painted; in addition to the backstage dressing rooms, there was a rich array of stage machinery.
The building has passed unscathed the bombings of World War II, which destroyed much of the old town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana still in this period, the scenarios and the painted curtain were destroyed, most of the furniture scattered.
After major renovations that have returned to the Teatro Antico splendor today Alfieri hosting events of national importance.
