Teatro Puccini - “End of the rainbow” / Teatro Puccini -

The new theatre season at the Puccini Theatre in Altopascio features 8 performances, between 19 November and 21 March, organised by the Cultural Association Pinocchio – Ideas and Projects and Altopascio Town Council.

19 November:

Monica Guerritore, accompanied by Andrea Nicolini, Alessandro Riceci and a live band, present “End of the rainbow”, an internationally acclaimed biographical musical on the life of Judy Garland written by Pete Quilter and directed by Juan Diego Puerta Lopez.

Details:

Saturday 14 December, a major Italian pop music event, marking the fifteenth anniversary of the death of Lucio Battisti, Formula Tre will perform a live concert, as a tribute to the great singer-songwriter.

Thursday 19 December, Veronica Pivetti will perform at Teatro Puccini, with “Mortaccia – La vita è meravigliosa” (Bad Death – Life is wonderful), entertaining musical performance with a gothic flavour, where the main character is a sarcastic, innocent, modern Death.

Saturday 18 January, to share a smile with Katia Beni and Anna Meacci in “Ticket & Tac – divagazioni in pillole semiserie su salute e benessere” (Ticket & Tac – half-serious pills on health and well-being)

Nini Salerno and Mauro di Francesco, Tuesday 28 January, will perform an entertaining comedy written and directed by Diego Abatantuono, in which a happy Death tries to convince a stand-up comedian to be “taken away”, telling him how Laurel and Hardy, Chaplin and Totò passed away before him.

Three of the best-loved protagonists of the popular fiction “Distretto di Polizia”, Gianni Ferreri, Daniela Morozzi and Roberto Nobile, Tuesday 20 February, interpret “Terapia terapia” (Therapy therapy), a hilarious and paradoxical play on the vicissitudes of a couple in crisis.

“Per non morire di mafia” (To not die by mafia) is the performance interpreted by Sebastiano Lo Monaco on stage Saturday 1 March. Written by Procuratore Nazionale Antimafia Pietro Grasso, it draws the theatre back to its civic and evocative function, eliciting questions and an enhanced consciousness from the audience.

The season closes with “A night in Tunisia” by Alessandro Haber – an interesting interpretation of the last moments of a man capable only of looking at the past, a Mister X who is easily recognisable as Bettino Craxi as portrayed by his son Bobo and Gianni Pennacchi in the book “Route El Fawara”.

The programme also includes an extra show: Friday 14 February, Valentine’s Day, Teatro Puccini hosts Antonio Cornacchione and his “Cronache sessuali” (Sexual Chronicles), a comic interpretation of the Kinsey Report on the Americans’ sexual habits.

Inaugurated in 1905, the Puccini Theatre has a long history and was for decades one of the symbols of Altopascio, with links to, among others, Giacomo Puccini. In 1984 it was closed by its proprietors with the intention of turning it into apartments, but was then bought by the town council in 1995, who started a complex restoration programme. Today, the theatre is an avant-garde structure with 320 seats, 200 in the stalls and 120 in the gallery, comfortable furnishings in blue velvet, with bar, dressing rooms, a structure designed to ensure the best acoustics and visibility from all sides, a stage that can be adapted according to different logistic and technological needs, Dolby Surround and 3D projection systems. The multipurpose room can also be used for meetings, social and educational activities for the young and seminars.
