THE SWAN LAKE

The ballet number one in Russia has chosen Viareggio as stop of his world tour and will perform on the stage of Teatro Politeama Monday, December 12th. The company, headed by Emelyanov Anatloy was founded by Emelyanov himself and by Anna Leksidze in 1997. Among its ranks the ballet includes dancers of great artistic experience and sophistication.

The troupe's artistic philosophy involves not only the staging of ballet classics, but also the creation of a modern wider repertoire aimed at a larger and more demanding audience.
 

The Swan Lake is perhaps the most famous ballet in the world, and continues to keep all its charm for the lunar atmosphere that accompanies the apparition of Odette, for the dual role of Odette-Odile, white and black swan, for the neverending struggle between Good and Evil.

The plot, a really romantic one, tells the story of Princess Odette that an evil spell by wizard Rothbart forces to spend the hours of the day under the guise of a white swan. The curse can be defeated only by an oath of love. Prince Sigfrid comes across overnight into Odette, he falls in love and promises to save her. At a party in Sigfrid's palace the wizard shows his daughter who had taken the appearance of Odette to the Prince who, convinced of being in the presence of his beloved, swears her eternal love. Then the magician reveals the true identity of the girl and Odette, destined to die, disappears into the lake. Sigfrid, desperate, decides to follow her: with this gesture he breaks the spell and the two young lovers can live happily ever after.
