Ugo Nespolo

From July 16th – 31st, work by the artist Ugo Nespolo is on show at Villa Bertelli.

Ugo Nespolo was born in Mosso (Biella), graduated from the Albertina Accademy of Art in Turin and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Arts. His artistic career dates back to the sixties when he was heavily influenced by Pop Art, and later by the Conceptual and Poverist movements. His work is easily recognisable by its trademark stamp of accentuated irony, transgression and personal sense of humour.

In the seventies, Nespolo adopted (experimental) cinema as a second means of expression. His actors are typically artist friends such as Lucio Fontana, Enrico Baj and Michelangelo Pistoletto. His films have been shown at cultural institutes such as the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art, Polska Film Library in Varsavia, the Ferrara Civic Modern Art Gallery, Turin National Museum of Cinema and the “Manege” Museum in Saint Petersburg.
