"An Enigmatic Masterpiece: The Tomb of Ilaria del Carretto" is the title of a co-ordination held by the historian of Annamaria Giusti at the National Museum of Villa Guinigi. Much has been said about this famous sepulcher , but there are still enigmatic aspects that have urged Annamaria Giusti , Who was already director at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, to investigate archival and bibliographic research.
There have been news and deductions that pave the way for other and possible hypotheses on this problematic masterpiece. To provide material for discussion is the origin of the tomb, which certainly was not what we see today; The identity of the gorgeous gizzard and the very autograph of Iacopo della Quercia. The extraordinary charm that this work has always exerted has made it all the more necessary to free it from ancient prejudices, an obstacle to the search for a more striking historical truth.
