In the municipality of Pescaglia is renewed the tradition of the crib in a cave. A charming nativity scene was set in the natural cave known as the "Cave of Campore" by the Speleological, Mountaineering Group Valfreddana, only a few hundred meters from the Ironworks Pielucese . The setting in the den, between stalactites and limestone concretions, make the atmosphere unique.
That of Piè Lucese is one of the most beautiful Nativity scenes of the province Lucca, which every year is visited by thousands of people. You get to the Grotto through a path in the forest of 600 m length, where you can walk safely on you own and that is illuminated at night. Some volunteers of the Nativity will welcome the guests at the entrance of the cave and accompany them into the natural chamber of 40 m. length, where they can admire concretions of calcite that are still alive, the natural lake of pure water that frames the Nativity. The whole cave is cleverly lit to emphasize the shape and the characters of the nativity scene, 45 cm tall.
Curiosity: you can participate as a volunteer of the Nativity to share together the Christmas atmosphere.
How to get there: from Diecimo Pescaglia take the direction Pescaglia until the hamlet Trebbio, then go ahead on the road that from Convalle leads to Piè Lucese until the Ironworks Galgani (1794) . (The path is consistently indicated with appropriate signposts).
Visitors coming from Versilia must go to Gombitelli (Camaiore) first and from there continue to Piè Lucese.
Leave your car at the Ferriera Galgani and from there walk along a marked and illuminated trail for a little more than 500 meters.
Suitable shoes are suggested.
