The Antro del Corchia is an underground system of impressive dimensions that continues to offer new opportunities for research and adventure for speleologists and underground enthusiasts. The first known entrance was identified in 1840 by naturalist Emilio Simi, and to date, approximately twenty entrances have been unvailed. Since the early 20th century, several European speleological groups have explored the mountain, until in the 1980s, teams departing from different points met inside, realizing they were facing a single, immense karst complex.
The park was inaugurated in 2001, after two years of work that led to the construction of a 52-ton steel walkway, designed to be entirely removed in the future to restore the underground environment to its original appearance.
The itinerary extends for approximately two kilometers. Tours last approximately two hours and are not difficult at all. Access is also suitable for children over three years old, provided they have no mobility issues or serious heart problems.
