Ponte dell’Acquedotto

Ponte dell'Acquedotto

Ponte dell'Acquedotto (Waterworks Bridge) is sited just outside the historical centre of Barga and is a noteworthy building dating back to the second half of the 14th century. It has undergone changes several times. In the 17th century, arched waterworks were built against the parapet of the original carriageway bridge, which had a single round-headed arch and was made of sandstone. It is the only bridge in Barga not blown up by the German troops during the retreat of the II World War. That is probably due to the historical and architectural importance of the building.
