Special event at the Oratory of the Angeli Custodi

On Saturday, October 16, at 5.00 pm, Lucca’s historical town centre will host a special cultural event aimed at rediscovering and valorising the seventeenth century Oratory of the Angeli Custodi (Guardian Angels), organised by the Association ‘Nuove Tendenze’.

With an original programme that mixes art with classical music, the public will be given the chance to appreciate the architectural and artistic characteristics of the Oratory in Via dell’Angelo Custode, which has long been waiting restoration work.

 

Design by the Lucca-born architect Vincenzo Paoli and built in 1638-39, the Oratory was embellished with frescos, stuccos and paintings between the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th century and was the residence of the Angeli Custodi Congregation. Today, although undoubtedly a monument of great value to the town, it remains closed almost all year round.

 

For this reason, Nuove Tendenze has organised its opening and a guided tour (5.00 pm) with Patrizia Giusti Maccari, President of the Amici dei Musei Association in Lucca. This is followed (6.00 pm) by a concert by the Lucca born, young, talented musician Edoardo Pieri. The concert’s first half is dedicated to Renaissance music for the lute, and the second to the most beautiful soloist guitar pieces by the great composers of the twentieth century, such as come Heitor Villa-Lobos and Alexandre Tansman. The set of the oratory, which has excellent acoustics, was designed and created by Cinzia Landucci for ‘Nuove Tendenze’.
