80 dipinti, alla fondazione BML, raccontano una Lucca incantata / 80 paintings, at the BML foundation, reveal a spell-bound Lucca

The Banca del Monte di Lucca Foundation presents a fascinating new exhibition at its premises in Piazza San Martino.

The exhibition “Dipingere l’incantesimo – Pittori nelle terre di Lucchesia di inizio ‘900” (Painting the spell – Painters in Lucca from the early 20th century) inaugurated 19 December, brings together over 80 paintings, mostly from private collections, that share the passion of their artists for this region.

In a period of accelerated industrialisation, as was the end of the 19th century for all Europe, Lucca, with the tranquility of its beaches, green rolling hills, secular monuments and country life, became a popular destination and inspiring muse for numerous artists of the time: not only painters, but also musicians, poets and writers.

This exhibition reveals landscapes of an almost spell-bound town, in balance with nature, immortalised by great artists such as Moses Levy, Alfredo Meschi, Nino Carrara, Giovan Battista Santini, Plinio Nomellini and Lorenzo Viani, who have shaped the the history of art in Tuscany.

The exhibition, with free entry, includes work by Carlo Carrà, created while being hosted by Pascoli in Coreglia, as well as paintings by contemporary artists such as Marzia Martelli, Alessandro Tofanelli, Antonio Vignocchi and Marco Pasega.

Thanks to the partnership with the Association Cluster, the exhibition boasts an exceptional sound track specially composed for the occasion: “American Forever”, recorded by the “Etymos Ensemble”, with Francesco Gatti (flute), Tony Capula (clarinet) and Alberto Gatti (live electronics)

“Dipingere l’Incantesimo” runs until 17 January:

Monday to Friday 3.30pm-7.30pm;

Saturday and Sunday 10am-1pm and 3.30pm-7.30pm.
