Promoted and organized by Associazione Musicale Lucchese, Teatro del Giglio and Fondazione Cassa di Lucca, the Festival is preparing to transform the city again in a huge outdoor stage, bringing the music out of the places that are home to the institutionally and projecting it to the streets, historic buildings, museums and churches.
More than 300 musicians involved, about 90 events (mostly free) in four days, 25 different unusual and evocative locations for concerts and conferences.
The cello will be the main protagonist of this edition of Lucca Classica with the energy and the communicative power of 100Cellos, the overwhelming orchestra led by Giovanni Sollima, internationally renowned composer and virtuoso of great depth, and Enrico Melozzi, emerging talent already very He is known and appreciated in Italy and abroad.
The gruup will perform in the streets and squares of the city, then finished the stage at the Teatro del Giglio with its final concert on Sunday 7th May.
Among the musical events events in the Cathedral of San Martino dedicated to Ilaria del Carretto; the conversation with the sociologist Domenico De Masi of emotions and rules; the actor Giuseppe Cederna which proclaims the verses of Giacomo Leopardi to the music of Schubert; a conversation with empathy neuroscientist Giacomo Rizzolatti, who discovered mirror neurons; the show "Metaphysics of the tubes" with Sonia Bergamasco, narrator, Emanuele Arciuli, piano, and music composed by Nicola Campogrande.
Meetings with the physicist Guido Tonelli and its reflection on the silence and music; the return of Peter De Maria, Mario Brunello and Andrea Lucchesini; musical events with the Quartet Adorno, Danilo Rossi, the teachers of the Royal College of Music in London, the students and the orchestra dell'ISSM "L. Boccherini "of Lucca, the Nous Quartet and Marcello Nardis; the tribute to bassist Leopoldo Boccherini, Luigi's father, Gabriele Ragghianti, Jeff Bradetich, Alberto Bocini and ThierryBarbè; tango of Astor Piazzolla with Giampaolo Bandini, Cesare Chiacchiaretta and participation of Amanda Sandrelli.
Every day of the Festival will close with a concert.

at 21:00 in the church of San Francesco, music in the cinema is an ideal passage of witness between Lucca Film Festival and Lucca Classica with the Orchestra and choir of the Istituto Superiore di Musical Studies Luigi Boccherini directed by GianPaolo Mazzoli Tracks from the John Williams soundtracks for Star Wars, The Phantom Menace, Battle of the Heroes, Saving Soldier Ryan, Harry Potter.
Friday, May 5th
At 21:15 in the church of San Pietro Somaldi, the world's first Giacomo Puccini organ music performance by the famous musician Liuwe Tamminga, organist of the Basilica of St. Petronio in Bologna. These are 21 pieces composed by Puccini for an organist student and found thanks to a careful research, review and historical-musicological study carried out by Centro Studi Giacomo Puccini and Professor Gabriella Biagi Ravenni, President of the same Center.
Saturday, May 6th
At 21:15 at the Teatro del Giglio, the evening is dedicated to LUCCA CLASSICA 2017, this year will be delivered to Eleonora Abbagnato, the first Italian dancer nominated for the Opera of Paris and currently director of the dance body of the Rome Opera. After the conversation between Abbagnato and Oreste Bossini, the concert by Mario Brunello (cello) and Andrea Lucchesini (piano) with music by C.P. E. Bach (12 Variations on the Folie d'Espagne), G. Sollima (Cello for Solo Cello) and A. Schnittke (Epilogue from the Peer Gynt Ballet for Cello, Piano, Magnetic Tape).
Sunday, May 7th
At 21:00 at the Teatro del Giglio, the final concert of Lucca Classica 2017: The 100Cellos for Luigi Boccherini and Lucca capital of the cello with music by F. X. Geminiani, L. Boccherini, G. Puccini, G. Sollima and Pink Floyd.
As always one of the hallmarks of Lucca Classica is the series of events for children and families.
